Technician fleet & dispatch

When a customer goes down, the question is always “who’s closest?” WIFI.OS answers it: your technicians’ live positions on the map, and one-tap dispatch of the nearest one.

How location sharing works

A technician shares their location only while they’re signed in to the field app — nothing runs in the background after they log out, and there’s a visible indicator whenever sharing is on. The position updates as they move (throttled to save battery and data) and pauses when the app isn’t in front of them.

We keep this deliberately private:

  • Consent — sharing is on only while signed in.
  • Retention — only a short, recent trail is kept; older points are pruned automatically every night.
  • Visibility — positions are visible to dispatchers only (Owners, Admins, Customer Care), never to other technicians or anyone outside your ISP.

Seeing your fleet

On the map, turn on Technicians to see everyone who’s currently sharing. A live technician shows in green; one whose last fix is stale shows grey. Hover for their name and how fresh the position is.

Dispatch the nearest technician

From a fault — for example a fibre point’s blast radius — choose Dispatch nearest. WIFI.OS ranks your technicians by real distance to the site and sends the closest available one, so you’re not radioing around asking where everybody is.

You can also assign work by hand — see Tickets & field jobs.
