Hotspot billing
Hotspot is prepaid Wi-Fi: a customer connects, pays for a time or data bundle, and is online until it runs out. WIFI.OS handles the payment, provisions them on the router, and cuts them off automatically when the plan expires.
How a customer buys
- They connect to your Wi-Fi and are redirected to your captive portal (branded with your name and logo).
- They pick a plan — say Daily Unlimited.
- They enter their phone number and get an M-Pesa STK Push. They enter their PIN.
- On payment, WIFI.OS provisions them on the router and starts their clock. They’re online.
If a payment callback is ever lost on the mobile network, a reconciliation check catches it within a couple of minutes and still connects the customer — so a paid customer is never left offline.
Multi-device plans
A plan can allow more than one device (and dedicated TV slots). The paying phone can approve extra devices onto the same session with a tap, so a household on one bundle works the way people expect.
Vouchers
Not everyone wants to pay online. Vouchers are prepaid codes you generate in batches and sell in cash — the customer redeems the code on the portal instead of paying M-Pesa. Same result, no transaction fee.
Watching sessions
The Active Users page lists everyone online right now. You can see their plan, device count, when their session expires, and disconnect anyone immediately if needed.
What you need
- A router added under Settings → Routers, pointing customers at your portal.
- At least one hotspot plan.
- Payments turned on (verified M-Pesa settlement) so STK Push works.
